Rega plinth restoration recommendation

Some time ago I bought a cheap Planar 3 as a stop-gap until I get an RP6. I got my RP6 and decided to keep the Planar as well, to play records that are in less than pristine condition. The tt sings its heart out with a DL-110 but it could do with a bit of cosmetic refresh. The plinth is a bit scratched:

Any ideas how to smooth out the scratches? Are there any inexpensive DIY ways to do that?
