Buying British

samedi 9 avril 2016

This has been on my mind for a while, what with the possibilities of brexit and the steel situation and an economy under pressure. I recall as a teenager a fairly uncool campaign along similar lines suggesting we all bought Austin 1300s or Allegros etc and they managed to make it sound like some sort of 40s war effort campaign. It actually made me think how uncool British stuff was.

Anyway I've been thinking that we really should be trying to make an effort to jointly improve our economy. I see people going to a lot of effort to recycle waste and wonder what would happen if we made a similar effort with products we consume, and whether all products should carry a label that gave you an indicator of uk benefit as a percentage. Say a mini made in the uk but profits going overseas against a BMW made in Germany with profits in Germany and distribution margin in the uk only. For all goods then customers could decide whether the value of the item to them justified x% going overseas.

I'm going to start to try and consume more uk stuff, be nice if someone would make a uk Mac alternative along with phones etc. I really believe our only way out of our problems is to build our economy, we can argue where the taxes get spent until the cows come home, but we need to make more profit.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
