How good are modern speakers?

I doubt there'd be much mind blowing going on from a pair of good 30 year old speakers to a pair of good modern ones, where-as the electrical tech improvements over that time frame have been utterly vast, i'm not sure about speaker tech...magnets, rigidity/weight of materials, enclosure materials... Crossover caps might be a bit crusty though.

Speakers are a bit like voice boxes in their sound, they are all so deeply flawed in respect to what goes in/out vs the rest of the chain you'd have to have a listen :P
