Laptop as source?

Hi

I have a Hegel 160 amplifier and I intend to use AIFF files from an external HDD connected to a MacBookPro 2011 as source.

My question is whether the MBP is a limiting factor in sound quality. I know a mac mini is a good source but wonder if the laptop would be inferior? Would the soundcard on the computer be bypassed by feeding the internal DAC on the H160 from a USB port in the laptop?

In short I'm wondering if laptops are inferior to a mini.
