[FS] Grado PS500e Headphones / Grado RA1 Amplifier

dimanche 10 avril 2016

For sale, an absolutely fantastic pairing, the Grado PS500e and the rare Grado RA1 headphone amplifier. Happy to sell separately, provided it's the the RA1 first.

Photos here....
http://ift.tt/1fxpGAw

PS500e
These are the sweet spot in the range, building on the warmer, more balanced qualities of the PS500, but adding some more precision and air to bring the sound to life a little more. Compared to the RS1i, GS1000 and RS2E they sound the most neutral and real. The RS1E are a completely different beast, as many will know by now. I stayed well clear after a first listen.
The PS500e are incredibly easy to drive and even sound fantastic from the iPad / iPhone.

In excellent condition and with original box. RRP £600, yours for £395.

Grado RA1
An incredibly simple battery powered amplifier that's a perfect match for any Grado. It gives the Grados that extra few % compared to other amps and sources. One 9V battery lasts for months with regular use. It's made from a lovely block of Mahogany.

In excellent condition, no original box. RRP £420, yours for £225.

Overall a beautiful and simple pairing, and a joy to listen to.

Based in London Stoke Newington, N16. Happy to post to anywhere at cost.

Looking for good but not exorbitantly costly 6922 and ECC83

My preamp tube set seems to be in need of replacement - getting occasional squealing on one channel which has changed sides with the channel inversion of the tubes.

Advice about good quality but relatively affordable 6922 and ECC83 would be welcome.
The same goes for suggestions about reliable suppliers - preferably in Europe since i live in France and parcels from the States etc get hit with import duties etc.

Hana MC cartridges now at Radlett Audio

I am pleased to announce that Radlett Audio now has the wonderful range of MC cartridges in stock.

Hana means "brilliant and gorgeous" in Japanese and a very apt description for these excellent value for money cartridges. Manufactured by the Excel Corporation of Japan, which has been making high quality cartridges for other well known companies for 50 years. Put another brand on the box and they would easily sell for double the price.

There are 2 high o/p models and 2 low o/p. The highs work into any MM input and the lows into any MC input.

The low have an Elliptical tipped version and a Shibata. The high also have an Elliptical and a Shibata.

Prices are £276 for Elliptical and £447 for Shibata and that is very competitive.

Moderat III

This one has really got under my skin. I wasn't aware of them at all before spotting III on Tidal. I mentioned them on the "What are you listening to?" thread, and likened the vocal to Thom Yorke. I think that was wishful thinking on my part, and applies only a smidge to one particular track.

An irrelevance anyway, I spend too much time trying to compare artists, mostly just for the sake of giving a clue as to whether other folk might like something I suppose.

Anyway, if you like techno/electronica with a decent vocal and really catchy melodies give this one a whirl.

FWIW It's my first purchase since going "rental"

Gigs - Bucket List

So - after 40 years of gigging I am left with a few bands/artists I feel I must see before either I or them shuffle of this mortal coil. Some acts I want to see because I feel I should and some because I have a real passion for and have not been able to see up to now. This is not about bands you would like to reform.
I have tickets for Elton John, ELO.
I would still love to see Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Muse and nine inch nails. Lesser known but still on my list include Big Big Train, Temperance Movement and Aaron English.

The last time I saw an iconic artist live that lived up to their status was Roger Waters the Wall in 2011.
Subsequent attempts have had their moments - saw Fish do Misplaced Chilhood last night- but age is fast catching up with us all.

[WTD] Mini-ITX PC mobo

samedi 9 avril 2016

Looking at the possibility up upgrading the mobo in my MPC which has been relieved of such duties and passed to Mrs C after her old tower died. (terminal mobo death, whole thing stripped for parts as too big anyway)

New mobo needs to come complete with a decent CPU (modern duo core minimum) with passive cooling or low profile fan.
Be able to support at least 8gb of DDR3 RAM.
Have an expansion slot, PCI is prefered but PCIe will do.
Support optical drive.
Come complete with I/O panel.

Added bonuses would be USB3.0, integrated BT and WiFi.

No NAS or Server specific mobos thank you.

Anyone have something like that languishing around?

Buying British

This has been on my mind for a while, what with the possibilities of brexit and the steel situation and an economy under pressure. I recall as a teenager a fairly uncool campaign along similar lines suggesting we all bought Austin 1300s or Allegros etc and they managed to make it sound like some sort of 40s war effort campaign. It actually made me think how uncool British stuff was.

Anyway I've been thinking that we really should be trying to make an effort to jointly improve our economy. I see people going to a lot of effort to recycle waste and wonder what would happen if we made a similar effort with products we consume, and whether all products should carry a label that gave you an indicator of uk benefit as a percentage. Say a mini made in the uk but profits going overseas against a BMW made in Germany with profits in Germany and distribution margin in the uk only. For all goods then customers could decide whether the value of the item to them justified x% going overseas.

I'm going to start to try and consume more uk stuff, be nice if someone would make a uk Mac alternative along with phones etc. I really believe our only way out of our problems is to build our economy, we can argue where the taxes get spent until the cows come home, but we need to make more profit.

Crazy idea of the week - return of the music centre

Fed up having to buy expensive cases? Yes

Fed up with having space constraints within cases? Yes, yes, yes

Fed up with all the wasted space on your rack? Yes

Fed up with wife complaining about "all the boxes" ? Yes

How about the return of the music centre?

Firstly get a few sheets of substantial sheet aluminum - eg 600mm x 450mm

Put a front and rear panel on

Arrange all your lovely components with no height constraints

CD + psu's on one shelf, preamp +psu's on another, poweramp on another

Get a nice wood working person to make a cabinet that will take the aluminum sheets and space the shelves 200mm or so. Arrange all front panels needed at the front and get said wood working person to make a front panel which goes top to bottom and has holes just big enough to expose the parts of the equipment front panels that you need access to eg control knobs, power switches, CD player front controls etc. Turntable sits on a spiked shelf (level adjustable) on top of the cabinet. Whole thing on castors. The aluminum sheets are pulled out from the back to dick about with them. Ventilation added where required (sides, back and top), power amps have lovely finned heat sinks added.

Voila, a lovely 'music centre'.

There are more considerations but i could go on forever.

I am seriously putting this idea into action.

Epson R2400 A3 printer with continuous ink system

I have an Epson R2400 fitted with a Permajet continuous ink syste (CIS) that I'm thinking of parting with as my bigger Epson does most jobs now. It's also got an external waste ink tank so no problem with leaks due to the internal waste ink pads being saturated. Would need to be collected as the external inks can't be disconnected and I don't have a box. Any interest here? Don't really have a clue what it might be worth.

Passive Pre run backwards?

Passive Pre run backwards?

I've set up a temporary solution to not having a mono switch on my pre and I was wondering if there are any potential impedance isssues doing it this way. All the components are passive, so I'm assuming not - just a small increase in the signal path. Basically I've used the fixed (record) output of a spare passive pre I had kicking around as the input from the phono stage and then used the two inputs as outputs (one stereo, one combined to mono). These then feed my normal preamp. On a first listen, it all sounds okay, and it obviates loads of cable swapping as I wade through the Beatles Mono Vinyl Box. Not quite as neat as a mono button, but should be okay, yes?

Harbeth SHL5 to SHL5 Plus

When I asked my local Harbeth dealer whether the difference between the SHL5 Plus and the discontinued SHL5 is significant, his response is as follows.

The Super HL5plus is faster and more dynamic. It will be better if you audition both the models at our outlet on the type of music you enjoy most.

Before I make a trip for a listen, I would be interested to know if there are any SHL5 owners here who had switched to the SHL5 Plus and found an improvement in separation, dynamics and bass response. Overall a more open, transparent and dynamic sound.

I have been listening to the Dali Mentor Menuets in my main system for about 2 weeks now. Despite the slight *electronic* sound, the little Dalis are more upfront with more extension in the highs. Although the Dalis are more detailed and have more extension in the highs, they do not sound overly bright. They are fun and engaging monitors. The Dalis obviously don't do deep bass due to their diminutive size and do not fill up the large listening area, but they certainly sound larger than they look.

I just switched to the Harbeth SHL5s after listening to the Dalis for 2 weeks, and in the first few minutes the speakers sounded, well, warm and little dull. But after a while, my ears got accustomed to the natural sound again(after all these years).

That brings me the question. Does the new SHL5 Plus sound more transparent, lively and engaging in the treble (more detail and extension) whilst having better separation in the midrange. And the bass, whether it was tuned to be more taut and tight. Of course I can drop in for a listen, but I just thought if anyone here has done a direct comparison between the new SHL5 Plus and its predecessor.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The amp is immaculate and includes its original box, packaging and Naim mains lead. It was serviced by Class A in August 2013.

Given the condition and recent service I'd like £1k for this. I'd ideally like to trade it for a 250.2 (including money your way, obviously) as all the rest of my boxes are now black ones, or I might consider a swap for a 200.

Bryston pre amp or ?

I have two systems into one.

Bryston bp25 pre amp
Bryston 9b power amp

Pioneer AV amp

Kef reference model 2 speakers
Svs ultra pc13 subwoofer.

The problem I'm having is when trying to set the subwoofer up there is not enough output from the Bryston pre amp to match the front speakers?
The subwoofer gain is full and it still needs a few more Dbs.

I'm using a antimode 8033 s 2 as well and that reduces it by a few dbs.

I had the subwoofer amp tested and swapped so that's ok.

A lot of people seem to use the svs on a -12db setting so how comes I can not get a match at 0db ?

Also I'm using the pioneer AV amp for movies and setting the Bryston pre amp at 12 o'clock, Main pre outs from Pioneer into Bryston input and then letting the Pioneer do its automatic set up, it says it's +14 db to match the pioneer own amps that are powering the rear speakers? I have normally set my pre amp at 12 o'clock so would this suggest that the output from the Bryston is very low ? If so how can I measure check the output ?

[SWAP] Black Hegel HD12 DAC for set of Monitor speakers that go close to a wall

Hi.

I have a brand new Hegel HD 12 DAC that I have listened to for less than 12 hours. It comes with box, manual, credit card sized remote, and a power cable (tell me whether you need a schuko or UK plug). No marks, of course.

It sounds lovely with lots of detail. Matched with the Little British Monitors (active) I could not fault anything in the sound the combo made. I listened to the LBMs placed on my desk - so as very near field monitors. Wow.

Still, I have decided that I need passive speakers more than the Hegel HD12.

As I live in Denmark, we will each have to pay for shipping. I will pay for shipping from Denmark to EU member states and you will pay for shipping from Your country to Denmark. Unless we agree otherwise.

Nait2 compared to Uniti

I don't thing that anyone is going to be able to give you an answer Howard unless someone has both units and a decibel meter. Watts don't really mean much in this context. Do you play your music really loud? Do your ears hurt afterwards?

I own a CB Nait 2 and it is more than enough for my Guru Juniors. Many have powered much bigger speakers with the little shoebox and enjoyed the sound. The Nait 2 has limitations but in the right system it can outperform much bigger systems in terms of its musicality.

Bottom line is that you will have to buy one and see if you like what you hear. It is highly unlikely that you will lose any money if you do not like the Nait.

Ortofon Quintet Black on Rega RP8 Set-up Advice

Ortofon Quintet Black on Rega RP8 Set-up Advice

Have just bought a new Ortofon Quintet Black cartridge and mounted on my Rega RP8 deck, with RB808 arm.
I have added 5mm packing to raise the arm, but wondered if this is correct?
My reasoning was that the quintet was 2.5mm taller than my Nagaoka cartridge and I had 3mm packing for that! I did not have any more packing to hand but could get more if I had to?
I set up with a Baerwald protractor and dialled in 2.3g force!
Sounds really good, but a bit closed in at the moment!
Has anyone got this set up and can offer advice?
I assume the sound will open up after a few hours use?

I spent a couple of hours listening to the S1 through a 500 driving some Focale Supra N2s. The source was an NDS with 555. This is easily the best system I've heard, even with its digital front end. Not all recordings were great - Blue Nile's Walk Across the Rooftops on Tidal was horrid, whereas the CD rip on the local server sounded great. However other Tidal recordings were good, including the newish Blue Nile album. Higher res recordings were as different as going from an XX2 to my XV1S. Really interesting. The S1 is way out of my reach but the NDS is worth considering and the speakers were superb. Also the SL cables might be worth a go. Many thanks to Andy, he knew I wasn't about to buy any of it (my 300 is only a year old has just been DRd) and I'm very pleased with my system, but it was interesting to hear how much more £100k buys.

Looking for a late mk1 pair, in good working condition. Both grills must be intact.

I don't drive unfortunately. So postage is only the best option.

I'm based in Torquay, ''St Mary church'' (Devon)

Payday comes next week. If seller can accept a deposit, I'd be grateful.

Let me know via PM.

A sad day...

A sad day...

A buyer came along and the D700s will be gone by Sunday... Sadness rules.

Meanwhile, much quality time being spent with them before their departure.

PS: Have decided not to sell the electronics - a re-design of the study rack and they can fit with a liberal application of KY Jelly.

What crap are you listening to right now? #1

I play too much crap to mention on a daily basis, i'm stuck in my youth

I was bought up on the sweet & lily the pink in our household so i have an excuse.

My parents were never going to be into classical, the thought of my father sitting, drinking a glass of wine while listening to Mahler does make me smile a little, more digging the garden in his slippers with the radio at full blast listening to blockbuster.

I have tried so called "serious" music, it's just not for me.

My supa funky cd's rarely go a day without use

One man's crap is another man's musical diet

Illusonic launch new firmware.

Illusonic launch new firmware.

Illusonic have just released new firmware for their IAP Processors.
The new calibration software allows you to choose between various room shapes and speaker positions, it shows you graphically and step by step where to move the microphone to for each subsequent measurement.
It is extremely straightforward, once you have measured you save the files and send them off to Illusonic where 'your' EQ is created.
Then you simply upload that file to your IAP processor.
Sound quality is by far the best I have ever experienced.

Any suggestions for a power amp for an Audiolab 8200CDQ? My IAG 8000P has just died and I don't care enough about it to get it fixed. Budget is around £1000, new or s/h. My speakers are Ruark Templars though I have a pair of Epos ES11s that I use occasionally. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Released today, I'm listening to it on Spotify right now, it's brilliant. The Sunday Times rated it to be better than Hendra, I'm not sure about that, but it's certainly up there.

Collection from Surrey preferred, but delivery is also possible, we can discuss the cost of that if necessary. Usual payment methods, cash, bank transfer and PayPal gift.

£550 + postage.

Young adults and girl friends staying over

Anyone else gone through this sort of stuff?

Every time my sons girlfriend (age 22) comes round she doesn't go home for 2 or 3 days at a time, its pretty much every week - sometimes a couple of days at a time twice a week.

My son also goes and stays at the girl friends family home in similar fashion.

We love them both dearly but finding it all a bit much/claustrophobic to be honest.

In addition there is planning for meal times - my wife and I both work full time and don't know from one day to the next who is going to be round the dinner table or what we need to load the shopping trolley up with - are we cooking for 2, 3 or 5 - aargh ! ! !

I don't mind one night at the weekend and maybe an odd night every week or so, but that is falling on death ears.

Roon/Tidal free trial

I've been running the above for a few days. Quite like Roon, but having problems with connection on Tidal and cancelled the subscription last night in frustration. I'm running both on my laptop and aware that Tidal does have an off line facility but this only seems available on the Android app not on PC.

Roon offers a nice interface and having the metadata immediately is a good function, but it is only content lifted from Allmusic which is available for free. I like the Discover page, but for me it's real benefit would be finding new music on Tidal

Is there any way round shitty connection/broadband problems running Tidal on a PC?

I get the impression that Roon sounds better than JRiver but have until now not believed or noticed that software players make any difference. Roon does claim to configure itself best to suit my Mytek DAC, and there's a nice little picture of the DAC for the device playing icon (which pleases me more than it should).

Stuff for windows 10

Ok i have a surface pro 4 now and i like it i think.

Ms have created a great product apart from the magnesium back, I have been super carefull but there is already a bunch of non removable scare, very dissappinting.

The main issue though is windows. Its so buggy but wondered if people experience any of the following and if solutions were found

Notifications
It would appear all bets are off if this will work. I dont get any noises from outlook even though its all ticked to do so. The mail app only makes noises if i close it down??

Flight mode
Can this be fully disabled?. It seems to imply its on (randomly) even though wireless continues to work.

Pen
If i click on a text box with the pen tool it pulls up handwriting, god thats so bloody annoying

Hello
It says its looking for me, says it cant find me, so i drag up to enter password and the desktop loads anyway, is that cool?

All in all i can see this being a real work horse, but wish i could have afforded the surface book, a surface is heavy and like ios the onscreen keyboard is shit. Like that it happily runs adobe apps.

On a side note is there a nicer email app out there, i dont need it too complex, but the lack of notifications out the inbuilt one is a pain and outlook is well, outlook. I tried the mozzila abomination, ideally i want it to not look from 1997

Nottingham Analogue Hyperspace TT with 9 inch Ace Anna Arm ( both the usual black ) and Clear audio Signature Cartridge. In excellent condition. Cartridge has plenty of life left in it. Excellent sounding combo. Well over £5000 new looking for £2200 collection preferred.

Silvercore Step up transformer 1 to ten. Excellent sounding step up transformer hand wound I believe in Germany as new cost £450 after £300 plus p and p

Impulse H2 speakers in Burr Walnut. Excellent live sounding speakers High Efficiency prodigious deep and extended but articulate bass allied to a wonderful open and lifelike midrange and treble. Stunning speakers in every way. Change of circumstances forces a reluctant sale. £1200 ovno no postage and you’ll need a big car to collect.

Tube Technology Fusion CD player with digital inputs. Very versatile and can be used as a DAC a Transport or CD Player. Uses the DAC chip out of the chord 64 dac but with a tube output stage. Very musical and resolving machine. Again great to look at too. In good condition apart from the rear panel which is slightly bent ( you wont be able to see this ) I did this when trying to tube roll and one screw would just not come undone no mater what i tried. Remote fully functional and excellent machine . Last you will ever need.

Looking for £500

Superb sounding DAC in silver boxed lots of reviews on the web and it really is every bit as good as they say and has responded very well to a few mods. Clarity Caps added and a Black Gate Cap in the power supply section. Best of all is the ability for tube rolling in the output stage. Mine will be provided with CK5755s ( with adapters ) in place which just give more of everything except volume. Big sound stage , superb tonality and a lovely flow to all genres. It loves everything and i very much doubt you would find anything better at anywhere near the price. I have had to pay over 4 times the new asking price for any worthwhile improvement.

Looking for £400 plus p and p

External linear power supply for Squeezebox Touch

http://ift.tt/1YhZQQP

Finally got this up and running today.
This is based around a 1.5kVA transformer (that's 1500VA), 60,000uF of capacitance, an 8 lb choke to filter off backflow RF noise from the SBT. The meter on front is a nice plus. It's aircraft control panel surplus that originally sold for $400.

The voltage regulator is a high spec 5V discrete module that looks beefier than the Naim DR ones.

In the short time I have had it running tonight, it is starting after the first hour to sound insanely good. Bass in particular is very extended and tuneful, easily shaking the house. I am yet to try 24-bit files.

Comparison with CDS3 will eventually follow. But right now its nice to have random access.

Dennis Davis R.I.P.

Dennis Davis R.I.P.

Hi,

The news has reached me about the death of Drummer Dennis Davis. He was David Bowie's drummer from the mid 70s to the early 80s. He play on some of Young American, all of the next albums up to and including Scary Monsters. He help to define Bowie's sound by playing on many great records.

He also played on albums by Roy Ayers, Stevie Wonder, George Benson and Jermaine Jackson. Being part of Bowie's setup, he played drums on Iggy Pop's Idiot album.

Dennis was a New Yorker who studied the work of fine jazz drummers, Elvin Jones & Max Roach. He joined the Clark Terry Big band and gained plenty of experience. He then joined Roy Ayer's band in the early 70s. Bowie hired him in the mid 70s because he like his style.

He died of cancer on the 6/4/16

He played a fine set of drums on many a fine record.

Speaker Stands oscillation

I just bought some cheap ( £16 ) Apollo Olympus 6 Black Speaker Stands ( one large column type )from Ebay for my (Ebay ) Epos M5i's I got last summer. What worries me is even after spiking them onto metal coins onto the wooden floor ( over concrete ) tapping the top of the speaker sends them into a noticeable oscillation - unlike my larger Target 4 legged stands for my Monitor Audio R852MD's which are rock solid and stable. The bass quality of the Epos dont seem to be affected by this strange matter. by Any comments. Any one else here have stands that oscillate in this way but are ok?

What's a Mu-so and where do I plug in my TT?

My Muso is currently providing TV audio duties and music in the family to room.
I could plug my TT into my Muso.
I have a prefixed LP12 so all I need is a phono to 3.5mm adapter and plug into the aux connector on the side of the Muso.
Indeed it is something I intend to do as soon as I don't need a bloody crutch to get around the house.

Why do they get out of bed?

I need to talk to someone.

I want a pair of good headphones and I want to listen to some Grado325e over ear devices.

I phoned one shop up, no phones. They advised another branch. i spoke to the second branch, they had two in stock and they asked me to listen to them. I drove 70 miles, paid for my car parking and called into shop.

I asked to listen to the headphones and discovered that they were 1/4 inch, my mp3 player, nay advanced portable music device has a 3.5mm phono socket.

Wait for it, they had no adapter. Admittedly I had forgotten mine, but ffs it's supposed to be an audio shop. I put the headphones down said time's up and set off to walk out of the shop. One of the gentlemen asked what I was going to play the headphones through. I nearly killed him on the spot. (Only in my head folks) I did suggest that answering that question wouldn't really help. I heard various noises as I left the premises. I would rather visit purgatory for 1 million years than visit that shop again.

Thanks for reading. help, help help!

PS Anyone know a good pair of comfortable over ear headphones for around £300.00 that will sound OK through an iBasso DX80 music player? Music mahler to women singers such as the Unthanks, prog, no randb, drum and bass but good and controlled bass. Please, can anyone help me!

Not surprisingly Mr Bowie features prominently, but the second and third best selling of his albums are both compilations which sums up the great British music fans really.

Another deceased icon (mentioned in the article) also appears in the top ten.

Proof, if any were required, that death is a good career move.

p.s. It's a good job my brakes worked when Sir Cliff (just Cliff then) ran across the road in front of me all those years ago (Mrs S wouldn't let me wash the car for ages as his hand prints were on the bonnet!)

Densen B120 Limited Edition Integrated Amp - How good?

Does anybody here own the Densen B120 LE integrated? How does it compare with the likes of Rega and Naim equivalents?

Lastly, where does the B120 LE stand among the Densen integrateds? Is it a much better sounding unit than the B110? How about the B130, B150 and B175? I am not looking so much at power but the sophistication or refinement in the sound.

I read that the preamplifier stage of the B120 is based on the B-250 preamp, and the power amplifier stage is based on the B-150 integrated amplifier, a 2x75w version with the same circuitry.

Any advice would be appreciated.

[WTD] Speaker Cable 2.5m+ pair. Factory terminated.

Speaker Cable 2.5m+ pair. Factory terminated.

Having sold off various bit of speaker cable when I went active, I now find myself chopping in two and putting basic terminators on the one old bit of cable I had not sold in order to wire up my "new" passives...

So, looking for a pair of not stupidly expensive cables - min 2.5m each, but a little longer would be fine. Happy to pay for something more than basic - hell knows they might make a difference.

I'd strongly prefer a pair that are either factory terminated, or done to a similar level so that I don't have annoying plastic bits that constantly want to undo themselves...

So, what might you have that you no longer need?

Looking for the outer sleeve for a linn LK100, with the rear left venting. Not an amp, just the outer sleeve that slides over the amp and is held on with 4 screws underneath. Other LK

[SWAP] My Larsen Model 4 for your Linn Sara ?

I fear I have a Sara itch to scratch, so this is a preliminary enquiry as to whether anyone might be interested to swap ?

My Model 4 are sonically 10/10, black cabinets very good 7/10, fabric "hats" slight damage (only visible close-up) let's say 5/10. The latest Model 4.2 (upgraded crossover only, there was no 4.1) retail for EUR 1390 in the Eurozone.

Strong preference for wood veneer Saras, rather than black ash. Unconcerned about grills, very concerned about the rest of it.

This is a very preliminary enquiry, as unless you live or plan a trip to the continent, I am not driving over to the UK from NL till the summer holidays (no dates yet, likely late July / August, when I will also have my spare JVC AX-Z1010TN for sale). Strong preference not to ship anything of this size... & not in a particular hurry anyway.

[FS] Vandersteen 1C

Due to a new project starting, and not wanting to have too much stuff lying around after a recent spring clearout, I am putting these excellent speakers up for sale. I bought these in September last year.

They have a really nice easy/open sound and integrate well into the room, making positioning easy. They are around 90dB and a very easy load so nice and easy to drive, even my little 1.5wpc Decware Zen drove them to decent levels, with the 60wpc Bryston B60 its ample.

Link to the specs pdf here:
http://ift.tt/25MyaZR

They are in good but not excellent condition. The drivers are all great, little dusty (despite the grille) but works perfectly as you would expect.
The top/bottom wood panels are in black ash, and have a few small defects but no scratches.
One of them has a slightly loose fabric sock/grille, and the grille area round the back back panel has been cut.

Overall they look very presentable but not mint. They do not come with the original optional 'T' shaped stands, but there are some diy ones included.

I'll get some more detailed photos up later.

Looking for £250

Collection only from Faringdon, Nr Swindon or local drop off.

Flashback Sales Premiere Cable

mercredi 6 avril 2016

I just received my Flashback Sales Premiere Cable. It is a RCA cable I use between source and amplifier in an all Rega gear.

I am shocked.

I tried many interconnects with the exact same setup:
- Cardas Hexlink
- Cardas Quadlink
- Belkin PureAV Silver
- Rega Couple
- Chord Chameleon

The Premiere blows away all of them. It is VERY natural, not bright at all, and basically has no flaws I can detect. It is open, slightly warm, darkish in a good way, and dense again in a good sense. NOT hifi in any way.

Fantastic stuff. HIGHLY recommended.

No affiliation whatsoever with this company, just happy to have found such a great, no nonsense cable, and wanted to share.

Naim cd5x

Hi, new to forums and would like to ask a question about above player that I'm interested in buying privately. Chap selling it says that that it has problems playing cdrs, but has no problems with genuine CDs?
Wondered whether naim CD players are fussy about cdrs or could it be something more sinister?
Thanks for any help

A lot of other cable offerers will be unhappy with someone who claims

Mine seem fine even though they are of different makes.

I've just taken delivery of a Couple 2 to use between a Rega DAC-R and Apollo-R. I assume the arrows on the cable point towards the Apollo, could someone confirm please.

Cartridge Azimuth

I know that there have been couple of threads in the past looking at this issue. I know that you can set azimuth by eye. I've been doing this for nearly 40 years with my Hadcock and a host of other tonearms.

Take it that the TT plinth is level, everything else is set up correctly and you have a preamp, which has no mono switch.

a) Do I buy a Fozgometer? (The Feickert Azimuth+ looks too finicky for me, as I am a Mac user and the software is windows only)
b) Do I buy an oscilloscope?

Option a) looks relatively easy to do. As I don't want to lug a whole load of gear around, an easy (albeit not cheap) solution is good for me.

If it's option b), then what sort of scope and how do I connect it up to my system? Is option b) easy to do for those in the know?

Thanks

Charlie

[WTD] Sugden AU51 DAC / AU51c Pre

Rare I know, but I'm after a Sugden AU51 DAC and / or an AU51c pre-amp.

Would prefer the one box mk2 version of the pre if possible along with the external phono stage.

Must be reasonably priced, in good cosmetic condition and good working order would be preferred.
Within reach of Oxfordshire or willing to post please.

Thanks

Help needed with an NVA A60 power amp please!

Help needed with an NVA A60 power amp please!

Hi
I recently aquired a faulty NVA A60 (early version) Power amp that had two faulty transistors on one channel and also a few burned out resistors so I decided to replace all of the transistors for both channels and the burned resistors and when I finally got round to powering it up with the pre amp that came with it the sound was fantastic for around 15 minutes and then as it warmed up I started to hear distortion in one channel but this was the channel that was not faulty originally.
I immediately shut it down and have not done anything with it since.
I have been informed that NVA use a resistor to set the bias but was wondering if anyone knows which one or how I can go about biasing the amp as I loved the sound so much and think it's well worth fixing.
I have tried contacting NVA directly via email but had no reply as of yet.
I would really appreciate any advice and guidance on this if possible.
Many thanks!

iFi ipower wall wart.

I've just found this device on another forum, and wondered if anyone's got experience of it, please? I was thinking of trying one on my CA640P phono amp, and also wondered whether it might benefit my RP3, which is also fed DC from a wall wart. Presumably the only benefit would be with my phono amp? At around £40 it's not going to break the bank, but I could buy two LPs for that.
