Replacing NACA5?

I've spent over 20 years wrestling with 4 metres of NACA5 when my speakers are about 1 metre from the amp (NAP180). Bending, restraining with cable ties, having it suddenly spring out at me when I dust behind the speakers, and so on.
I remember Les suggested adding a DIY inductance of about 15 turns of 1.5mm copper wire inside the amp, or, I suppose, it could be added to the end of a substitute cable itself outside the amp.
The idea being to use common-or-garden 4mm mains cable instead, which bends easily and would only need to be 1 metre long.
Has anyone done this? Did anything change in the sound?
