The consistently superb Storyville delivers once again with a remarkable documentary based around the meeting of two now elderly children of WWII Nazi mass-murderers and a Jewish lawyer who had a very large part of his family tree wiped out by their parents. On the face of it this sounds the kind of low-brow tabloid cliche one would find on Channel 5 etc, but it really isn't at all. What we have here is an exceptionally well put together story of acceptance, understanding, denial and even downright revisionism. A remarkable unflinching study of many aspects of human nature and how differently different people deal with things that no one should ever have to deal with. Also a timely reminder of just how easily a society can descend into hell if politics shift to the right, as is gradually happening in so many places in the world at present. Highly recommended (
