K Seal 'Ultimate' Head Gasket Repair.
Today, Mrs Mull announced that the heater on her 14 year old shed of a Punto was not working and that her car had been 'steaming'.
A quick look confirmed loss of coolant. Re-filled but didn't bother much with bleeding and fired up. 'Boiled' over long before hot enough to trigger the electric fan.
Let it cool, refilled again with special attention to bleeding. Fired up. Heater worked, coolant 'boiled' over again. Since top hose and rad both getting plenty hot I surmised thermostat and water pump both OK.
(I really can't be arsed with pulling engines to bits any more)
Head gasket leak looking likely. My usual local repairer quoted £380-400 for 'head job' with no guarantee that the head itself wouldn't be buggered. Car is prolly worth about £200.
Decided to try 'K-Seal'. Was actually persuaded to try the more expensive 'Ultimate' version at £30 for a bottle.
Chucked it in and it worked!!
Since pushed the little Punto up and down hills etc. for around 20 miles to try to stress it. No problem. Coolant not boiling over and temperature staying in limits.
Best Thirty Quid I've spent in years.
