How reliable is memory at evaluating changes to hifi? Not very it seems...

I had great system satisfaction when I borrowed a pair of mk1 ATC7s (thanks Hugh), but now that I've finally acquired my own pair to replace my mk3 7s over a year later, they seem less suitable for wall mounting than the other mk1s. Admittedly, I've changed carts and other hardware in the meantime, but I was sure that if one pair of mk1 7s worked well on my wall, then all pairs of mk1 7s would work well on my wall. Apparently not.

Fwiw, the mk1 and mk3 7s sound fairly similar and there's not much to choose between them; certainly less of a difference than when I switched from mk1 Kans to ATC 7s, no doubt about it.

I think I'll have to get an SPL mic and measure the difference between ATC 7s because my ears and memory are clearly unreliable - as predicted by Descartes a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Let's block ads! (Why?)
