Burglar alarms in power cuts?

What is it with them? There is a power cut in my street and has been for the last three hours. There have been two of the pissing things going off for the entire time.... It's going to be at least another two hours yet too.

Why don't people disable them? Seems like they can just sleep through it... Unlike their neighbours. Also, they should time out after about 30 minutes, there is no point in them going off for hours.
