The core claims of Christianity; is it fair to say...?

I must admit I don't entirely understand the question, but as an atheist with an interest in science I view any notions of 'heaven', 'hell', 'creation' etc as just crazy talk. To my mind the core teachings of Christianity (New Testament) is fairness, pacifism, wealth redistribution and equality (early steps admittedly). It is kind of a proto-Communist Manifesto in many ways and there is a lot of good written in those pages, parables etc. A lot of genuine decency and I'd personally list these as the unique selling points.

PS FWIW I personally view the Old Testament as a rather more dangerous book, one that is full of way too much bigotry and aggression. The New Testament can be viewed as a much needed service pack/bug-fix and should be what any opinion is based upon IMHO.
