These have been my main amps for over 4 years, so it feels like selling a house I've lived in. They have taken me through some very different systems as they are extremely versatile. They will drive large and difficult speakers in large rooms (I've heard them sound amazing with Kharmas), but they are quiet enough to sound good with 106dB horns (I had Klipsch La Scalas for a heady month!).
I have tended to use classic British speakers known for their mid-range; chiefly Quads and Harbeths. What the Unico Pre/DM did is really wake them up, unleashing dynamic capabilties that most people have never heard in that genre of speaker.
The best system I had with these was with Quad ESL 63s; an amazing match. That system had an incredible mix of qualities; it delivered amazing intimacy, so that listening to Dylan in mono or an obscure flamenco singer from the 50s would sound absolutely magical. That much you'd expect, but the real shock was hearing thunderous minimal techno through the Quads. Totally gripping; and that was down to the Unicos. They really do play all music superbly and it saddens me that I don't have a room big enough to have a big pair of Quads with these. I'd really love to hear them with 989s or 2905s!
