Tweeter ferrofluid replacement

mercredi 23 mars 2016

I have some old (maybe not classsic !) B&W P4 speakers that have a metal dome tweeter that contains ferrofluid.

It is documented on the web that this fluid dries out over time and by 15 years the tweeter output is seriously diminished and lacking clarity. As mine are 19 years old now (does that classify them as classics ?) i am obviously paranoid as the slow decrease in sound quality is less noticeable.

Has anyone replaced ferrofluid in any designs and is it a DIY posssibilty (i have never had a drive unit apart) ? If not then would it be a job for a specialist speaker repairer ?

Many thanks, stu
