As mentioned elsewhere, I'm installing a home cinema and will, obviously, need a surround receiver.
Sources will be a PS3 and a raspberry pi streamer running openelec, both via HDMI. I'd like the option to add more HDMI sources if I want. Output will be to a 1080p projector via HDMI/Balun.
Looking S/H, obviously older ones with s-video connectors are obsolete for my purposes, but there a quite a few mid-range receivers that are now a few years old (eg Denon 2310 & 2311) that have all the HDMI and toslink connectors I'll ever need that are going for (relative) peanuts.
Is there something I'm missing or are these bargains they seem? For instance, I'm pretty clueless about surround codecs (AC3, DTS DD5.1 etc) and am a little concerned that older models may not support newer surround audio codecs that are now in common use. Is this likely to be an issue? Or can I buy with impunity? Any advice very welcome.
cheers
