iRacing - car racing simulation

Hi all,

I can see there is couple threads about motor-racing but not much about iRacing. I am writing this to share my experience with you. I am racing fan and when I got ps3 I thought... wait! I can race on that. So I started with Dirt game . It was so much fun! Got logitech G25 wheel and playseat racing chair. Than Gran Turismo 5 came out. Wow! this was revelation, so realistic (I thought hehe). Did probably 500 laps on Nurburgring Nordschleife. Even later went to rice on real track on my motorbike (this was scary!) Than I got an email somehow that nurburgring will be on iRacing. What is iRacing? Did some research and tried it. Fist impressions: crazy, too hard, can not even do one lap without loosing control. Something was not right. Indeed. Earlier games I was playing were 'arcade games'. This is simulation. Pedal to the medal does not work. You need to work gently with steering and pedals. I spent lots of time learning how to control car (mazda mx5). Than how to race. Probably after 3 months of practice and some races I was good enough to race in top split (with fastest mx5 drivers). And boy what an experience is this. Races are so competitive, so realistic, so intense, they give you either huge pride and joy or makes you angry like hell. It is all due to realistic driving, realistic cars, realistic tracks, very good tire model and physics plus very good racing system. Each clean race - you safety rating is going up. Each win and your skill rating is going up. If you have high skill rating you race with high skilled boys = proper competitive races. High safety rating and you can get higher driving licence. With better driving licence you can drive better cars and participate in higher racing series (up to Formula 1 / Indycar). This system makes sure most drivers will take racing serious and will race as clean as possible. Season last 12 weeks, track changes every week. You can race as much as you want during this week (at least once) and 25% best results will count to your season points. Races are every full hour. Points from 9 of 12 races will count to your season score. During my 3 seasons in mazda mx5 I managed to finish 3 times in top20 (out of couple thousands divers). In the process I updated my gear to Fanatec Clubsport gear (much better than g25) and I plan to build proper racing rig. But all I want to say guys is this: If you love motor-racing ,but you cannot do competitive racing on real tracks, the closest thing is iRacing. So stop watching boring F1 and race yourself!
