After a bit of dithering, I've ordered a passive pre-amp from Hattor, otherwise known as Khozmo or Arek. hattor.com (hattor.pl when the server gets fixed) I only hear good things and he replies to emails immediately at 4 in the morning. 35 years and never owned a pre-amp. Closest I got was last year when I had an ALPS fitted in my phono stage wth a line/phono switch and I run my DAC through it. As I now have my skybox and a DVD player in the stereo unit, the intention is to run sky, DVD/SACD, DAC and phono through a pre-amp, like normal people do. The good news is that he is about to do an all-black version, without the shiny bits that are not to my taste. I use Quad 909 mono's (RCA only), but have a Plinius amp in the loft with balanced inputs, my DAC has balanced outputs, so I've ordered the unit with some balanced in and out. So another first - balanced cabling. Off to StudioSpares for some M-F XLR cables (£15 each). Any users here of Hattor or Khozmo attenuators? Hattor
