MDAC issues with linux
I've been attempting -without success- at getting the MDAC running with embedded computing platforms running linux and a media player such as Kodi.
I've tried a raspberry pi and odroid platforms (higher performance than the pi).
Ive tried linux distributions such as ubuntu and debian
Ive tried media players such as kodi and volumio
I get consistent results. Initially they all crash when I plug in and turn on the MDAC with a usb connection. The MDAC displays the message 'Flushing buffers (4)'
With nrpacks=1 the computer/linux's do not crash but equally do not play, either with no sound at all or all crackles.
The MDAC works fine connected to Windows and I have the latest (I believe) firmware from Lake West.
Suggestions gratefully received. If I cannot get usb working recommendations for a usb-spdif device would be useful.
Thanks
Jim

They've produced some notable performances in fine resolution- Mackerass's Mozart Symphonies with the SCO for example.
I picked up the new Bach violin concertos with the Dunedin Consort and John Butt, recorded at Edinburgh's Greyfriars Kirk ( a great Bach venue over the years) which have had great reviews. What a find!

An intriguing band (duo) who to begin with were more prog rock orientated but on moving to the Island label pursued a more ambient direction in very much of an oriental style. Rather good for chilling to (if one doesn't mind the occasional gong or such like).

I have the original boxes so can arrange shipping within the UK.
For some reason this pair didnt come with grills and I couldnt obtain any from Rega - I have some "DIY" that will be included, based on the R3 shape, made from foamcore and acoustic fabric.
Very slight cosmetic marks - 1 speaker on the top, 1 speaker on the side, otherwise excellent condition. Drivers perfect.
Selling as they are too big for the room, having lost my "dedicated" listening room some time ago and it's going to be a long long time before I get a nice big room like that again.

Mains - Cable Belden 83803 or FURUTECH FP-314AG?
Has anyone compared the above 2 cables?
Mains - Cable Belden 83803 or FURUTECH FP-314AG?Issue with my Garrard 301
While installing the turntable back in its plinth (made from 5 layers of 18mm plywood), for a change I decided to ensure that the level of the turntable is correct. So, with the help of a spirit level I first leveled the plinth and then checked the level of the platter. I was surprised - it was no where close to being level - both, front-to-back and left-to-right.
On careful examination I noticed that if I look at the turntable from the front I see far more of a gap between the platter (bottom edge) and the chassis on the right side (tonearm side) than the left. Have any of you ever come across such a situation?
I inspected (visual) the platter's bushing and they seem to be OK - I think if they were not positioned straight the platter would wobble and I see no wobble at all. Also, the smaller gap between the platter's lower edge and chassis on the left side remains constant even when I remove the platter and refit it on the spindle after turning it 180 degrees. Neither does the spindle seem to be damaged/bent - I believe if this was so the platter would also wobble.
Further, the center of the chassis (where the spindle housing is bolted on) seems to be OK and not bent though I'll need to check it again with a spirit level. Unfortunately, I have not figured out how to check if the spindle is at 90 degrees to the chassis.
Now, assuming that I can't find the cause for this tilted platter, I am thinking of putting shims at appropriate locations between the spindle housing collar and the chassis such that the platter becomes horizontal - both, front-to-back and left-to-right. Does this seem to be a reasonable solution to the problem?
Your feedback, observation, advice and suggestion will be welcome.
Look forward to hearing from you folks.

[FS] Exposure 3010S2 Integrated Amplifier
This listing is for an Exposure 3010s2D integrated amplifier in black. This really is a great performer. This has received very positive user feedback and much praise in the hi-fi media. The revisions to the amp for this the 'D' verson are a worthwhile improvement over the previous 3010S2, together with adding the potential for the addition of a DAC and phono module. This amp doesn't have either option fitted.
I bought this new from a dealer in December 2015 (see my other lsiting for the matching CD player bought at the same time). Unfortunately the warranty is not transferable. It will come with all its original packaging, box, remote and manual. No mains lead. It works perfectly and is in excellent condition. I haven't included pictures for the time being as it sits in my rack at present. However, it arrived, I unpackaged it, slotted it in the rack and there it has sat ever since. That should tell you about its condition. I'll add some photos over the next day or so (if you really must have them then please pm me).
Full product details:
I'm asking for £825
I can dispatch this by courier which I'll arrange on the buyer's behalf (or you'd be welcome to arrange your own courier) for £27.50, insured via UPS. Sorry, but I can't be responsible for any damage caused by couriers. Having said that I've never had a problem with UPS. You can collect if you like by arrangement, but I'd ask for a deposit of £100 to secure the deal, with collection within two weeks (max), balance in cash on collection or prior via bank transfer.
First to pay secures (not just send me a pm saying that they're 'very interested; I'm very interested in an Audi R8, but unlikely to buy one any time soon!)

I can't dem this as it's in its packaging. Frankly, any dems in my room and my system is a waste of time, IMO. The whole point of buying used is that you can try in your system and sell on if not to taste.

Pro-Ject Audio Systems and Ortofon (+News & Reviews) - At Musicraft (Derby)
Musicraft is pleased to announce that we now also support Pro-Ject Audio Systems and Ortofon
Pro-Ject Audio Systems
Pro-Ject products are the result of an exemplary cooperation within a rapidly uniting Europe. For over fifty years record players have been designed and built at Pro-Ject's manufacturing facility in Litovel, situated to the east of Prague. This plant is one of the most advanced manufacturers of precision mechanics in the country. In cooperating with this company Pro-Ject Audio Systems, located in Vienna, found the ideal partner for their plans to produce the goods that they missed from amongst the vast flood of consumer hi-fi products - simple, uncluttered and utterly functional products. Pro-Ject Audio Systems is currently one of the world's leading suppliers of record players, with a range of models designed to satisfy all levels of expectation and budget. In many countries of the world customers can rely on competent service and support from Pro-Ject distributors well versed in analogue record reproduction technology. Pro-Ject products exhibit sonic performance beyond all expectations normally associated with their price. They are simple to use, maintenance free and will function reliably a lifetime long. They also offer extraordinary value for money.
Ortofon
A great Danish success story began in 1918
In the beginning was the sound track…
On the 9th of October 1918, the two Danish engineers, Axel Petersen (1887-1971) and Arnold Poulsen (1889-1952) founded the Electrical Phono Film Company with a few capable and foresighted businessmen who would support the organization financially.
Their aim was to explore the possibility of high-class recording and developing one of the first synchronized sound film systems in the world. Under primitive conditions, the two Danish engineers and their small staff had to solve a number of what were considered insuperable problems.
Ortofon today
Today Ortofon is a fine mechanical powerhouse, which develops, manufactures and markets the world acclaimed Ortofon cartridges and components for the hearing aids industry.
Our company has always been working with sound reproduction. Founded in Copenhagen, it initially made soundtracks for movies. In 1948 Ortofon developed its first moving coil cartridge, since then more than 300 different cartridges have been developed and manufactured, with our latest being MC A95 Anniversary cartridge.
We benefit from being established in Denmark, a country recognized for its strong tradition in acoustics and its wealth of other high-end manufacturers, who make hearing aids and acoustic measurement equipment, in addition to all aspects of high-end audio.
Ortofon worldwide
Acoustics, materials, technology and micro mechanics are key competences in Ortofon's technological prowess. Research and development is done with the company's own engineers supported by a strong network of acoustic know-how and industrial design in Denmark.
The products are sold worldwide through a network of more than 60 importers and Sales subsidiaries in the USA and in Japan.
Ortofon is owned by Danish businessmen and employs a staff of 95 people. The Ortofon manufacturing unit in Nakskov in the south of Denmark has modern machinery combined with experienced operators, so human craftsmanship is delivered with uniform industrial quality.
Growing the company
Ortofon has developed significantly over the last 10 years and currently is in a phase where the use of the advanced technologies has opened for exciting new business opportunities within the Medical industry. This growth is driven, among other things, by investment in the new technology and new products. As a recognition of the company’s successful development and significant positive impact on local society, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, then-Prime Minister of Denmark, visited Ortofon factory on April 27th 2015.
The company plans to continue growth and will increase focus on development and manufacturing of components to the Hearing Aids industries, not in the least Bone conductors. Ortofon is ISO 13485 certified with a scope "Manufacturing of components in plastic, rubber and metal for the medical device industry and manufacturing of Bone Conductors".
Currently Ortofon A/S and DTU Mechanical Engineering are working in close collaboration within the EU Seventh Framework and Horizon 2020 Programme for Research and Innovation.

NAP110 Let the smoke out!
'
There are fried resistors on both circuit boards, and two transistors that are visibly cracked and melted in Ch2 . I guess there must have been a voltage surge. The line fuse didn't blow, and the pilot light was still lit (I leave the amp on all the time, a practice which has now bit me in the ass).
I haven't tested anything yet, but I assume that the output transistors and drivers will all be toast. I wonder what, if anything, has survived...

Nice!!Designing psu for four monoblocs
I am aiming for 4 NCC200 amp boards with separate front and back end power supplies to drive my 2 way B&W P4 speakers. They are 88dB sensitivity and 8 ohms impedance which drops to 4 ohms at certain frequencies (dont know which frequencies). They are transmission line design with the port firing forwards and crossover at around 3.5Khz. The bass/mid filter is 1st order and the high frequency filter is third order with an air cored inductor in parallel with the tweeter. I love them.
As i will have two of the boards powering just tweeters i was wondering if i can decrease the transformer VA and capacitors considerably and concentrate on quality rather than quantity for the treble? I assume that tweeters do not need anywhere near as much current as the bass/mid. How low a VA could i get away with per channel ?
The backend of the mid/bass NCC are going to get 200 to 300VA each with 35V secondaries. The front ends i am planning 30 to 40 VA at 40V secondaries and will be using either the PFM gyrators or very simple gyrators with Tip31C/32C, 2k2 and 100uf Nhg.
I wish i knew how to work out how to measure what current the tweeters are drawing on their own when playing music at normal levels. I never listen very loud.
My current monoblocs have Nap140 transformer (it says 200Va on them although they do look a little small and single secondary of 27.5-0-27.5), minicap6 and ncc200 and they never run out of steam at my listening levels. I measured voltages on the output of the minicap6 and they dipped less than 1 volt when music was playing (at loud levels for me) compared to idle.

Looking for £120 ono, plus postage.

Steel Industry.
Their form doesn't point to it.
Yet we have supposed coming infrastructure projects which will need steel.
We really need to get back to supporting our own industrial base while there's anything left.

Bubbly LP prices
As I am gradually listing my records on Discogs I discovered that the one and only Reg King album in VG+ condition has recently sold for about £170. What does that make my mint copy worth?
Are we at the top of this particular market or is it going to get even more crazy?

Hallo everyone.
I'm fancying to recap my very old little pal there ...it isn't worth to spend big money on it. Would anyone have good advise on which parts to substitute, and on how/where to buy the spare parts needed?
Thank you all,
and Kind Regards
Andrea

Naim
I'm currently using Primaluna 3 and 5 valve equipment, just fitted brand new valves sourced from Watford Valves.
I also have other bits and pieces including an LFD Mk3 le solid state integrated.
I'm assuming that Naim 32.5, Hi Cap and 250 would make a decent system?
Front end I have a NA Spacedeck with Decca Gold re tipped with a line contact stylus and Naim cd5x.
Speakers I have are Proac 1sc and Totem The One.
I'm looking to put together one system with synergy I can enjoy.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.
NaimRe-tip Karma or ???
However...two Gents in the audio industry both of whom I trust, are giving me different messages. One, who owns an ESCo Troika says get the Karma done, no contest. The other guy tells me things have moved on since the 80s and I would do a lot better new.
So, what do you think? Budget £350 (the nominal price for sorting the Karma). MC or MM both options (but I use MC at the minute).
Thanks all. MV.
Re-tip Karma or ???PMC speakers
I've heard some positive comments about them, but not detailed nor justified; just "they're very good", "I like them" or something like that.
I'd like to have some more debated opinions, if anyone of you has listened to them; in particular, based on data sheet (and price), I maybe interested in model Twenty 24. But I'm willing to read comments on other models, too.
I would like to know what "sound character" they have, which strengths and weaknesses, if any. And if they would be an upgrade / downgrade / sidegrade from the B&W804s I now own.
thanks, ciao

More healthcare madness in the US
Last year when I left Massachusetts a health policy for my family was running around $1100 a month, with a $10k annual deductible (I'd usually budget for $5k extra out of pocket annually on top of the $1100 a month).
However with drug prices exploding and insurers limiting payments, even above the deductible a "bright spark" Harvard economist is suggesting healthcare mortgages that you only repay if you live.
So now as a family you're looking at $1100 a month for basic care, plus about another $5k-$10k deductible if you need to actually get any healthcare beyond a GP office visit, and finally if you're really unlucky and require expensive drugs perhaps a second mortgage on top of that to pay for the drugs.
Land of the free ? Gotta love the NHS.

Ageing of threads is there a way ????
Currently if I move away from the forum to a different browser panel and back again after a few minutes the previously unread threads are marked as read.
So can the length of time to age unread thread be increased ???????

Just listened to this again. What a wonderful recording this is. Beautifully conducted and singing of a quality that belies its age. Albenese is wonderful, singing with such sincerity and affection for the part. Bjoerling has moments of tenderness. It's a very real performance free of the histrionics and self conscious intensity associated with other performances.I feel this was a real golden age of singing and recording and there are very few modern performances that match this.Loved it.

bought from Mike P of this parish at xmas after he had thoroughly serviced it and aligned the laser, and it all hunky dory..
Mike had put the output opamps in sockets and its running OPA2107, & ill include OPA2604 for a richer flavour.
output caps are wima films, decoupling caps for the tda supplies are silmics, the dac decoupling caps are pansonic pps film & dem oscilator caps are wima fkp.
since then i have renewed every cap on the board, added small value caps for RC filtering between the filter and the dacs, & Oscon tying the -5 & -15v lines on the dacs & resistors tying the dem cap to the -15v supply lines. These were all carried out under the advice of Mike who is bit of a whizz on the tda dac!
its currently running with the remote controlled headphones unplugged but i can easily reconnect if you prefer (just four plugs on the board).
cosmetically it is second to none and i have sourced a remote. hopefully pics form mikes original advert below plus some from this am but somehow upside down- click on the pics and the link is ok
its has a transport lock so can post but would love to hand it over personally - i'm based in Norfolk and would like £200 for this piece of history

Thorens 125 suspension
Any tips for tuning the suspension? I know from dealing with my 147 that there's no substitute for hours of fiddling, but a bit of advice never hurt. So far can't get the top-plate centred (won't move relative to plinth in fact) or the belt to stay on.
Thanks.
