Why is it that printers are such arses to work with. Try cancelling a print job or a scan which has malfunctioned, or just stopped mid-job, you can wait for a million years and it won't comply until you pull out the power chord. Try using the power switch to shut it down and ...well..see above.. and if you do pull the power chord, it damn well tells you off for not waiting a billion years for it to shut down....
I have had various printers from the likes of Canon and lately HP and both have this behavior. Is this behavior programmed in to p*ss me off, if so it has worked..
