Simple FM antenna

samedi 27 février 2016

All my FM tuners, main room, office, garage, have always worked very well with just a piece of thin wire connected ONLY to the central contact of the coaxial socket on the back. However, in the office the stereo is among steel shelves, and I suspect this prevents it getting a clear, clean signal.

My question: if I use a coaxial cable, connecting the outer screen to the outer ring on the socket at the back and the central wire to the central contact, then keep say 1 meter of screen and leave 1/2 a meter of just the central wire free at the end, will this mean that the radio signal is picked up ONLY by the "naked," unscreened 50 cm of wire at the end?

In other words, I would use the screened portion of the cable to get away from the steel shelves, and the last unscreened bit to pick up the signal. Does this make any sense?
