SACD

I'm not one to adopt technology early. I bought my first CD player in 1999 -- a used Naim CD2 -- 17 years after Sony launched its first CD player.

I seem to have followed suit with SACD. I bought a demo Marantz SA-11S2 SACD player in late December 2015, almost 17 years after Sony launched its first SACD player.

Most of the SACD titles I've picked up are acoustic rock/pop, jazz and orchestral works, admittedly at the noodly end of music. I don't have a lot of them, perhaps 50 or so, but the good SACDs really do sound amazing.

Maybe the sound is 99% down to careful mastering, but I'm wondering if (a) anyone else thinks SACDs sound great and (b) why this medium never really caught on.
