NAC 72 boards 101

dimanche 14 février 2016

There's plenty of info about various upgrade options from NJ, Avondale, RSL...
I am aware that you can take out most of the boards, which should improve sound quality to some extent...
But I'm not interested in this at the moment.
I'd like to know, which boards came in NAC72, when it left the factory in 1990s.

As I understand there are two versions of NAC72, one with 2 PHONO inputs (BNC) and one with single BNC PHONO input and another DIN CD input. This version started at least in 1993.

So which boards came with the preamp as standard?

From what I gather from various places on internet, every NAC 72 came with

324/7 (tape out buffer)
729/1 Time-Aligned input buffer boards
321/5 Main Gain, Output Drive
325/7 X 1 Switch on relay

plus either 322 or 323 phono boards - probably one of the latter versions /4 or /5.

On the second PHONO input one could use either phono boards (322 or 323) or line input boards - either 328/1 (Variable Level Line input with some HF filtering) or 326 Fixed Line Input (link board)

Which of the above boards is different in NAC72 as opposed to NAC35(.5)? Did NAC32 have 729 or did it use something else, 324 perhaps?

Does NAC72 with CD input also have input boards?

Now for the tricky part, as I understand 324 are tape output boards, but seems like 324 could also be used in place of 729?

I'll stop at this point and wait for some feedback before I attempt to clarify this further.
