Is it a good time to buy?

My wife and I are getting ready to buy our first flat / small house. We can't afford London (where my wife works) so are looking a little way outside around Erith, Dartford, Swanley etc..

I'm wondering if it is actually a sensible time to buy though? London has been going up and up in price and I hear it has kind of hit the roof now as most people simply can't afford more. The places I mention above have also been going up in price a lot over the last couple of years presumably as people like us who need to be near London get as close as they can afford.

So, is it reasonable to assume prices in the mentioned areas will continue to go up for the time being or are they topping out now? How am I supposed to know?

I must say the market for first time buyers is kinda suckky. So many good places are cash only, buy to let only or for overs 60s! By the way, why does a seller care if you buy to let or buy to live?
