The Croft is around 10 months old and in superb condition - no marks, scratches etc and comes boxed. The preamp valve has been upgraded to a cryogenically treated one from Watford Valves. I will include the original valve that came with the amp. RRP £1,000.
The Rega Elex-R was bought ex-dem around 2 weeks ago. Still have the receipt. It is in as new condition with an unused power cord, unused remote and the plastic part of the fascia still has the film covering it. It is naturally boxed with instructions. RRP £898.
As for sound they, to my ears share the similar traits. Both are very open which wonderfully precise soundstages. The main differences are:
The Rega is slightly more detailed in the top end with a smooth, powerful deep bass and midrange.
To my ears the Croft is not quite as detailed in the treble but has slightly more precence in the midrange and the bass is not as deep but has a smidgen more impact.
The Rega is the best all rounder with everything put through it sounding superb. With acoustic music I think the Croft just has the edge. Just.
So for prices:
I am looking at £650 or near as damn it for either.
Thanks,
Rob
