Picasa and Picasaweb are dead. Alternatives?

Google are soon to discontinue Picasaweb and I would welcome alternatives to editing / organising / sharing my hill walking photos. I'm no photo pro so the things I liked about Picasa and Picasaweb are:-

- A free, simple desktop editor and organiser of all my photos
- From Picasa, I can easily share whichever photos and collections I like

I don't like the look of the new Google Photos and online editing and I don't necessarily want to have to upload / host all my photos with them, although I realise they already have the ones I've shared via Picasaweb. The new way seems geared up more towards mobile phone photography.

To set the scene, this is my typical usage:-
1. Spend a whole day hill walking and take about 50 photos on my Leica D Lux 4
2. Copy the 50 to a new folder on the PC
3. Use Picasa to tweek the images and add captions - name of hills etc. Time spent is about 45 mins
4. From Picasa I then simply select the ones I want to upload/publish on Picasaweb
5. I then tell my family and mates that there's a new walk published and they can see it as an album on a link they already have to my Picasaweb site

Are there any alternatives that are this easy? Photoshop etc are way too complicated for what I need.
