Deep Purple albums

The problem with Deep Purple is they produced a live album, Made In Japan, which is just so much better than the studio albums it almost negates them. Bacj when I was a school kid I bought Made In Rock, and it is a very good album. Then I bought Made In Japan, which has some of the same tracks on, but they sound so much better. The. I bought Machine Head (after the fact I know) and was disapointed to find it sounded utterly gutless compared to Made In Japan. I also tried, Fireball and Come Taste The Band, and didn't get on with them. My Purple collection remains at In Rock and Made In Japan!

Be aware there are two decidedly different mixes of Made In Japan; the original (gold sleeve) and a very different remix done more recently for I think the 25th anniversary (black sleeve, 2xCD). The former is big, warm and powerful, the latter far more aggressive, in your face and rather compressed. I very much prefer the former, though I guess some of that is familiarity. There is a later edition again (past couple of years), but I don't know anything about that. I'd personally recommend the original UK double vinyl (which to my ears edges the highly collectable DCC issue) and the original EMI single CD. That's just how it is meant to sound IMHO!
